If you want to sell Long Term Insurance contracts in the state of Illinois, there are two licensing requirements:

1) You must hold an Accident and Health license and

2) “Long-Term Care Partnership Insurance Required Training” course must be successfully completed.

Completing “Long-Term Care Partnership Insurance Required Training” is a once in a lifetime requirement.  The course is offered as a self study program and a 40 question, open book, multiple choice exam must be completed successfully.  Upon successful completion (70% is passing) Dohrn issues a “Completion Letter” to the student and reports the course completion to the Illinois Division of Insurance.  The completion letter issued by Dohrn is the only proof of completion the student will have for the rest of his or her career.  The completion letter should be kept in a safe place so that copies can be made and provided to health insurance carriers who request them as proof of proper licensing.

Currently, the Department of Insurance does not designate Long Term Care on a Producer’s license.  Dohrn Insurance Training only keeps records as required for three years.  If you lose your completion letter and took the course more that three years ago, you will have to retake and complete the course again to get a new completion letter.

Important Disclaimer: “Long-Term Care Partnership Insurance Required Training” should not be completed if the individual does not hold a producer license. Since this is a continuing education course, no credit can be earned for the person who is not licensed.  Furthermore, anyone who completes this course before being licensed will be barred from selling long term care insurance for a minimum of three years in Illinois!  It is therefore crucial to obtain producer license BEFORE completion  of “Traditional Long Term Care.”  Dohrn Insurance Training is not responsible for grading the “Traditional Long Term Care” test of any individual who does not hold a producer license, thus preventing the individual from selling long term care insurance for this three year minimum time.   It is the responsibility of the producer to know whether of not he or she is qualified to complete this mandatory Long term Care course # 25008
